There is no shortage of artistic ability in the Knuttel family, with three members being some of Ireland’s most notable artists of the 20th and 21st century. This month we have a landscape by Peter Knuttel, brother of Graham and father of Jonathan, both well respected artists in their own rights.
Peter Knuttel was born in Dublin in 1945 to parents Frederic, from Germany, and Margaret, from England. His parents had been living in England before Peter was born, but after the second world war, they moved to Ireland; similarly, his father had moved to England from Germany in his youth with his mother to escape the war torn land left behind by the first world war. He was academically trained in the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and went on to pursue a career as an artist full time and became internationally recognised.
Knuttel’s work typically showcases Irish landscapes and recognisable locations, making his paintings appealing to those looking for views they connect with and have a personal fondness for. This month, we have an acrylic on paper work by Knuttel titles ‘Sentinels, co. Kildare’ which would make a great addition for any collector of modern Irish art.
