Emeralds often have an ethereal quality to them, the vibrant yet soft green hues have been admired by many over millennia. Cleopatra is said to have admired the green stones, as well as the Inca peoples in South America. Often the stones of Royalty the world over, it is no question that emeralds are still just as magical and sought-after today.
In our November Fine Art Auction, we have two beautiful examples of emeralds with Columbian provenance. Lot 443, originally bought by the vendors mother in Columbia, is an exquisite ring of retro style boasting a 4.86ct emerald. The emerald has a lovely lively appearance with good strong colour. It also has amazing natural inclusions that are any gemmologists dream! Set in a bezel surround, this protective setting is perfect for the somewhat brittle stones that are emeralds. The ring was originally bought by the vendors mother in Columbia.
From the same collection is lot 444. The geometric pattern in yellow gold beautifully surround the elongated emeralds. The rich warmth of the gold a wonderful contrast to the rich green emeralds.
