The designer and founder of the Chanel brand Coco Chanel was born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France, originally a milliner she opened her first shop in Paris in 1909, from there she evolved to design clothing; becoming well known for her trademark suits and timeless little black dresses, she put an emphasis on making clothes that were comfortable for women. She herself became a much-revered style icon known for her simple yet sophisticated outfits paired with great accessories, such as several strands of pearls.
In 1921, Chanel released her first perfume with the help of perfumer Ernest Beaux, from here her Chanel perfume became one of the best knows luxury products in the world.
In 1927, she produced a line of costume jewellery, and in the 1930s she experimented with a fine jewellery collection. Her fine jewellery collection did not take off at the time, and it wasn’t until the 1990s that the Chanel house produced their regular fine jewellery lines.
